Eagle Materials improves profit by 44 per cent

Including its share of the jointly-owned Texas Lehigh Cement, the turnover of Eagle Materials for the first nine months to 31 December 2016 increased by 3.7 per cent to US$1.01bn. Algeria: thyssenkrupp awarded 6000tpd plant order

Société des Cements Sigus, a subsidiary of Groupe Industriel des Cements d'Algerie (GICA), has placed an order with thyssenkrupp Industrial Solutions for a new 6000tpd plant. The plant will be located in Sigus, Oum El Bouaghi, around 340km east of Algiers. This order follows a previous contract with GICA for a 6000tpd plant which was signed in 2013. Russia: Sibirsky Cement reports 17% drop in output

Production at the Russian cement company Sibirsky Cement fell 17 per cent YoY to 3.169Mt in 2016, said the company in a statement. UK: Ribblesdale plant begins GBP25m upgrade project

Hanson is implementing a seven-year project at Ribblesdale cement works in Clitheroe, Lancashire, to improve production efficiency and emissions. Chinese firm Mortal Investments Manufacturing has completed the construction of a US$20m cement plant in Redcliff, Zimbabwe. Initial production is slated to commence at the beginning of February, according to Wang Dongning, CEO of Mortal Investments. Northern Region Cement Co reported a 57.3% YoY decline in profits in the fourth quarter of 2016, according to the company's filing to the Saudi Stock Exchange (Tadawul). Profits reached SAR16.91m (US$4.51m), down from SAR39.62m in 4Q15 and -43.8 per cent when compared with the 3Q16. Cement consumption in Peru fell 5.2 per cent to 836,000t in December 2016, according to Asocem, the country's cement association. Exports decreased 43.5 per cent to 27,000t from 47,000t in December 2015. Cement production in December reached 886,000t, representing a 4.8 per cent decline YoY. Cement demand in Colombia fell by 4.6 per cent in November 2016 to 1.019Mt when compared with November 2015, according to DANE, the country's statistics office.
