Lafarge Malaysia Bhd plans to acquire Holcim (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd, for MYR330m (US$77.4m) cash, as part of parent company LafargeHolcim Ltd’s plans to consolidate operations in the southeast Asian country. San Miguel Corp to up investment spend

Philippine conglomerate San Miguel Corp said on Monday it is raising planned investment in cement manufacturing to almost US$1bn with the addition of three new cement plants to two previously announced facilities. President Ramon Ang outlined the investment at a briefing following the listing of San Miguel's PHP33.5bn (US$720m) worth of newly issued preferred shares. US seven-month shipment update

Shipments of Portland and blended cement in the US and Puerto Rico totalled 50.038Mt in the first seven months of the year, preliminary data from the US Geological Survey (USGS) shows. Imports accounted for 5Mt of the total. In July 2015, shipments reached 9.257Mt, with imports representing 935,779t of dispatches. Clinker production, meanwhile, is reported to be 42.282Mt for the seven month period, with output at 6.965Mt in July alone.

Lafarge Zambia plc has posted a four per cent profit after tax from ZMW180.7m ((US$18.4m) in 1H14 to ZMW187.1m in the same period of 2015 despite the country's economic challenges and political uncertainties in Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), which constitutes the company’s major export market. LafargeHolcim has decided to implement a squeeze-out procedure for the Lafarge shares not tendered between May and July 2015 (representing 3.56 per cent of the share capital). Buzzi Unicem has made a second offer for fellow Italian producer SACCI to acquire its cement and ready-mix concrete business. In a statement Buzzi said it had offered a provisional price of EUR74m to be financed through liquidity on hand and/or existing credit facilities. CRH has completed the acquisition of the assets acquired from LafargeHolcim in the Philippiness. In early August, CRH confirmed that the majority of the transactions relating to the package of assets to be acquired from LafargeHolcim were complete, with the exception of the operations in the Philippines which it advised would be finalised in 3Q15.
