Argentine cement market contracts 3.5 per cent in 2014

In December 2014, Argentina’s cement demand fell 10.4 per cent MoM and 2.5 per cent YoY to 892,313t, according to the latest data from AFCP, the Argentine cement association. The country’s cement producers supplied 905,306t of cement, including exports, registering a MoM drop of 10.4 per cent and 2.4 per cent YoY. South Africa sees pick-up in 3Q cement sales

South African cement sales rose by 4.6 per cent to 3.39Mt in the third quarter of 2014 after contracting in the previous two quarters, industry data released by the country’s leading producer shows. PT Semen Indonesia Tbk has prepared capital expenditures worth IDR7-9trn (US$550m-706m), to fund new plants, upgrades and possibly further international expansion. Holcim and Cemex today announce the successful closure of their series of transactions in Europe. Holcim acquired Cemex’s operations in western Germany and The Netherlands while Cemex took over Holcim Czech Republic with all its subsidiaries in the country. Just over a month after initiating a dramatic price cut, Dangote Cement has raised prices again in Nigeria. The price of 42.5 grade cement has reportedly increased from NGN1150 (US$6.10) to NGN1567 (US$8.37, excluding VAT). Peruvian conglomerate Gloria Group has acquired an outstanding 51.35 per cent stake in Bolivia's largest cement producer Sociedad Boliviana de Cemento (Soboce) for US$300m.
