The Spanish cement market registered a 24 per cent YoY drop in the first half of 2013 and the decline is expected to continue through the remainder of the year. In the first six months of 2013 domestic cement sales were 5,472,933t, latest data from local cement association Oficemen shows. Cement sales in Indonesia have reaccelerated in June following a slowdown in the previous month as demand recovers outside of Java. However, a more reduced growth rate is expected through the second half of the year due to a decline in infrastructure development. Total shipments of Portland and blended cement in the USA and Puerto Rico in April 2013 were about 6.7Mt, slightly down from the same month of the previous year, latest data from the US Geological Survey shows. For the first six months of the year, Vietnam sales were 22.68Mt, according to latest data from the Ministry of Construction (MoC). The amount represents 46.8 per cent of the full-year target, the MoC added. Output stood at 24.7Mt, making up 44.1 per cent of its whole year target. An increase in sales has helped ARM Cement, Kenya's second-largest cement producer, to achieve a double-digit rise in pretax profit. Pretax profit for the six months ended June jumped to KES1bn (US$11.51m), a rise of 28 per cent YoY, the company said in a statement. Cement sales rose by 28 per cent YoY in the reporting period.
