Cement prices in Zambia are expected to drop further with new capacity investments being lined up, according to the country's Commerce, Trade and Industry Permanent Secretary, Siazongo Siakalenge. Dangote inaugurates Zambian plant

The Dangote Group on Tuesday inaugurated its 1.5Mta cement plant in Zambia together with a 30MW coal plant to power the factory. The  project was inaugurated by Zambia's President, Edgar Chagwa Lungu, at Masasiti district, Ndola,  Zambia. The plant began operations in June and is selling both 32.5 and 42.5 grade cement to meet local needs.

Dangote Cement’s new plant in Ethiopia will open in May this year, helping to close the gap between demand and supply in the country. Lafarge Zambia will begin work on a EUR200m expansion project in the second half of this year, Emmanuel Rigaux, chief executive of the Lafarge unit, said last week. SCIROCCO Enterprises Ltd has entered into an agreement with a consortium to construct a 2500tpd cement factory in the Makeni area of Lusaka, Zambia.
