Zambezi Portland Cement has plans to establish a 5MW solar farm in Ndola, at a cost of US$7m. The Zambia Consolidated Copper Mines Investment (ZCCM-IH) is planning to establish a 5000tpd cement plant in Ndola, the Times of Zambia reports. Holcim Belgique is closing five ready-mixed concrete plants in Flanders, a move that will affect around 60 employees. The works being closed are at Furness, Ostend, Bruges, Izegem and Herentals. Competition has forced Zambezi Portland Cement (ZPC) to introduce a new and cheaper cement brand onto the domestic market. The arrival of Dangote Cement in Zambia with its greenfield Masaiti plant has seen cement prices tumble from ZMW70 (US$6.93) to ZMW50 (US$4.95) in a few months.
