New figures from the Kenyan National Bureau of Statistics reveal that the country imported KES2.2bn (US$21.7m) of cement from China in the first six months of 2016, up more than ten-fold on last year. DRC cement consumption around 40kg/capita

Cement consumption in the Democratic Republic of Congo is currently around 40kg per capita, according to Jean Bamanisa Saidi, president of the RDC Concrete Expo 2016, which is currently being held in the country’s capital Kinshasa. He added that new companies in Kongo Central will increase cement production in 2017, enabling the supply of cement equivalent to 100kg per capita as production is expected to be stepped up from 0.4Mt to 2.5Mt.

Cement dispatches in Argentina increased by 6.7 per cent YoY in August, according to preliminary figures published by the Argentine cement association, AFCP. The domestic market required the supply of 1,042,862t, up from 977,469t in August 2015. Colombia saw its cement market contract by 19.7 per cent YoY in July to 924,900t, according to the latest figures by Dane, the country’s statistics office. A round 68.2 per cent of this total was delivered as bagged cement and 31.8 per cent in bulk. Peru's cement market contracted 3.7 per cent YoY in July as 772,000t were sold, according to the latest data by Asocem, the Peruvian cement association. Cement consumption in Indonesia was up by 3.1 per cent in the three months to June, but the national figures belie the patchiness of regional growth. Moroccan cement sales in June declined by 10.8 per cent from 1,164,837t in June 2015 to 1,039,383t, according to the Ministry of Housing and City Policy.
