Kenya's cement consumption dropped for the second year in a row to 5.49Mt n 2018, according to Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS). The decline in cement consumption comes despite ongoing public infrastructure projects such as roads and phase two of the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) as well as continued development of buildings in the country. Cement sales in Chile, excluding imports, advanced by 7.6 per cent to 350,122t in January 2019 when compared to January 2018. In January 2018 sales by domestic producers reached 325,288t, according to the Chilean Chamber of Cement and Concrete (CChC).

Cement sales in Puerto Rico increased by 3.3 per cent in January 2019 when compared with January 2018, according to news service Sin Comillas. The latest rise represents the 13th consecutive increase in monthly sales. In 2018 sales surged by 38.9 per cent, the first annual increase since 2012.

Spain’s cement consumption index (IDC) noted a 9.2 per cent YoY increase in November 2018, according to the Spanish cement association, Oficemen. MoM a 2.4 per cent decrease was reported. Kenya is stuck in a spiral decline of cement demand with sales continuing to plumit in the first 9M18.
