Vietnam's cement and clinker consumption rises in 9M17

The total consumption of cement and clinker from Vietnam cement producers grew six per cent to 59.27Mt in the first nine months of this year, reports the Ministry of Construction. Holcim (Argentina) approves clinker imports

Holcim (Argentina) has approved the import of up to six vessels of clinker for the period up to April 2018 via LH Trading, according to a company statement. The shipments represents some 250,800t of clinker with an approximate value of US$16.3m. The imports, which are expected to start in May, will help the company to meet growing demand as the country sees increased construction activity. LafargeHolcim’s Argentinian subsidiary has a production capacity of 4.8Mta.

The vessel MV Festival, carrying 24,000t of clinker for Pacific Cement Ltd, has reached Lami Town, Fiji. The method of discharge has been changed due to a High Court ruling, meaning trucks must now be loaded in a barge and the clinker unloaded into the trucks onboard said barge. Nine Vietnamese seafarers are listed as missing following a collision involving a clinker carrying ship off Vietnam’s southern coast on Tuesday morning. Spain: Port of Seville quadruples cement shipments in 2016

The Port of Seville, Spain, increased its throughput of cement by 481 per cent to 74,200t in 2016. In addition, the port has expanded its business lines and diversified goods accepted by the port. This includes since the start of this year the shipment of clinker, which was previously shipped by other ports in Andalucia. The port’s location close to Portland Valderrivas’ Alcalá de Guadaíra plant has also proved beneficial for such shipments.

Pacific Basin's bulk carrier Port Botany from Japan arrived in Suva Port in Fiji yesteday ahead of its job of unloading 26,000t of clinker. Nepal's import of clinker rocketed by 674 per cent in the first four months of this fiscal as domestic grinding and cement plants tried to meet demand, reports the Himalayan Times.
