Colombia sees grey cement sales slip

Colombia’s cement sales slipped 1.3 per cent YoY to 0.984Mt in June 2017 when compared with the previous year, according to the country’s statistics office, DANE.  Ready-mix company offtake fell by 9.3 per cent and could not be offset by sales in the prefabricated segment, where sales increased 24.1 per cent and the building companies and contractors, which increased purchases by 1.9 per cent. Cement output in the country reached 1.003Mt, 0.9 per cent lower than in 6M16.

Peru’s cement producers dispatched 777,000t of cement in June 2017, representing a 2.2 per cent increase YoY, according to the latest data from Asocem, the country’s cement association. Steppe Cement reported a 15 per cent decline in volumes for the first half of 2017 while turnover was up by four per cent over the same period as the Kazakhstan-based producer focussed on pricing. Cement sales in Indonesia registered a slight decline over the first half of this year, while exports sales fared better over the six-month period, according to the latest industry data. Argentina’s cement market expanded 4.1 per cent MoM to 1,007,450t in June, according to the country’s cement association, AFCP. When compared with June 2016, the increase reached 17.2 per cent. The Moroccan cement market contracted in June by 30.6 per cent YoY to 721,846t from 1,039,544Mt in June 2016, according to the country’s Ministry of Housing. Cement sales in Brazil in the 1H17 fell 8.8 per cent YoY as the domestic market required 26.015Mt of cement, according to Brazil’s cement association, Sindicato Nacional de la Industria del Cemento (SNIC). As domestic output continues to outstrip local demand, Vietnam is facing a 26Mt cement glut in 2017, according to the Vietnam Cement Association (VNCA).
