Cement sales in Brazil continued to rise in August with a 13.6 per cent YoY increase to 5.7Mt, reported the country’s cement association, SNIC. Per working day, sales reached 244,400t, representing a YoY increased of 18.5 per cent and 3.7 per cent MoM. The Argentine cement market contracted 12.5 per cent YoY to 917,297t in August 2020, according to the latest data published by AFCP, the country’s cement association. However, when compared with the previous month, an expansion in sales of 6.3 per cent was reported. Total shipments of Portland and blended cement in the USA and Puerto Rico advanced 11 per cent to 10.1Mt in June 2020 when compared with June 2019, according to the US Geological Survey (USGS). Cement consumption in Morocco increased 19.4 per cent YoY to 865,681t in August 2020 from 725,359t in August 2019, according to data published by the country’s Ministry of Urbanisation and Habitat. Cement dispatches in Colombia fell 1.8 per cent YoY to 1.093Mt in July 2020 from 1.113Mt in July 2019, according to the country’s statistics office, DANE. Ghana sees 4% drop in sales in 1Q20

Total cement sales in Ghana have fallen 3.9 per cent YoY in the first quarter of 2020. The 1Q volume in 2020 reached 814,979t, when compared with 848,259t in the 1Q19. The drop in cement sales has been attributed by the Bank of Ghana due to a slowdown in construction activity due to the coronavirus pandemic. Cement prices in Ghana have been affected by the sharp fluctuations int he Ghanaian cedi in comparison with the US dollar.

Czech cement production reaches 4.57Mt in 2019

Cement output in the Czech cement industry increased 3.2 per cent YoY to 4.57Mt, a level not seen since 2008, reports the Czech news agency, CTK. In the last six years, cement production has increased by more than 40 per cent. Sales expanded by 1.5 per cent YoY to 3.84Mt, according to preliminary data of the Czech cement producers association.
