Eastern Province Cement reports 35% fall in net profit

Saudi Arabia’s Eastern Province Cement Co has reported a 34.6 per cent YoY profit decline after zakat and tax, falling to SAR70m (US$18.66m) from SAR107m of 2017. The company attributed the decrease to a drop in sales of cement, precast concrete and higher zakat provisions, according to a statement to the country’s stock exchange. In the 4Q18 profit surged 225 per cent YoY to SAR26m, compared to SAR8m of the previous year.

DG Khan to invest in hotel business

DG Khan Cement has informed Pakistan Stock Exchange(PSX) that an extra ordinary general meeting of board of directors is scheduled to be held on 17 April to transact some special business pertain to invest in Nishat Hotels and Properties Ltd. According to a bourse filing of the company, to consider and if deem fit, the company be and is hereby authorised to further invest upto PKR200m (US$1.43m) from time to time in Nishat Hotel. Libya Cement Co (CC) has announced an investment programme of EUR200m to be carried out over the next five years to increase its cement capacity. China Tianrui Group Cement reported a 21 per cent increase in profits to CNY1.21bn in 2018 when compared with CNY1bn the previous year. The company’s revenues were up 19.5 per cent from CNY8.42bn in 2017 to CNY10.06bn in 2018.

East African Portland Cement lose Athi River land decision

East African Portland Cement (EAPC) has lost to a government decision on ownership of a plot of land in Athi River, Kenya.

Suez Cement reports impact of wastewater flood

Suez Cement has announced that its Kattameya plant has been seriously affected by the collapse of a soil barrier around one of the wastewater ponds of a treatment station that serves New Cairo. Cementos Progreso tests new San Gabriel plant

Guatamala-based Cementos Progreso has completed its investment of GTQ3.85bn (US$501m) at its San Gabriel plant in San Juan Sacatepequez. Tests were launched in 2018 and are expected to continue in the next few months before the 4500tpd plant enters commercial operation. Initially output will be sold in the domestic market, but in the longer term, Cementos Progreso expects to export some of the production volume.

Former INC president to head Cementos Concepción

The former president of Paraguayan state-run cement producer Industria Nacional del Cemento, Jorge Mendez, will be leading the new cement company Cementos Concepción, according to Esmerk Latin American News. The new 1Mta cement plant , announced earlier this week, is expected to come online in 2021. Equipment for the facility will be supplied by Denmark-based FLSmidth. When operational, the unit will produce two types of cement – for small and large construction projects.
