Whale Rock Cement starts sourcing local clinker

Namibia's Whale Rock Cement, producer of the Cheetah Cement brand, has started to source clinker locally after initially sourcing it from Egypt, according to Zedekias Gowaseb, company chairman. Kuwait Cement Co (KCC) has started marketing oil well cement and made its first delivery on 13 March 2019 to National Petroleum Services Company (NAPESCO). LafargeHolcim has completed its second US acquisition of 2019, adding Texas-based Colorado River Concrete to its list of ready-mix producers. Plans are underway to create a new cement company in Paraguay, Cementos Concepción (Cecom). Qatar National Cement signs deal to expand export operations

Qatar National Cement (QNC) has signed a memorandum of understanding with Qatar Primary Materials, which will allow the company to expand its cement export operations. The deal will see the cement company use Qatar Primary Materials’ facilities, silos and platforms to export cement and clinker, according to a statement posted to the country’s stock exchange. 

Sinai Cement records improvement in 2018

Egypt’s Sinai Cement has reported that its standalone loss has narrowed by 13.7 per cent YoY in 2018 to EGP305.89m (US$17.56m), compared to EGP354.73m in the previous year. The improvement has been attributed to investment revenue and lower expenses, as well as collecting credit interests. However, revenue declined 37.7 per cent to EGP803.68m from EGP1.29bn. The company noted that cement consumption in Egypt fell five per cent in 2018.
