CRH completes fourth phase of share buyback

CRH plc has completed the fourth phase of its share buyback programme, returning a further EUR200m of cash to shareholders, according to a press release. Between 2 January and 29 March 2019, 7.6m ordinary shares were repurchased on the London Stock Exchange and Euronext Dublin at an average discount of 0.6 per cent to the volume weighted average price over the period. ENCI halts clinker production

ENCI, based in The Netherlands, has shut down its kiln after 91 years of operation. The event, which was carried out in the night of 29 March 2019, was low-key. The plant’s limestone quarry in Sint-Pietersberg, South Limburg, will now be a home to rare insects. Until 2018 the cement producer quarried limestone for the works’ kiln line. Penna Cement enters freight LTTC with South Central Railway

India-based Penna Cement Industries signed a long-term tariff contract (LTTC) with South Central Railway (SCR) to transport freight at a fixed rate. The five-year scheme will provide long-term stability and certainty in freight tariff rates to Penna Cement. Xuan Thanh Cement has awarded FLSmidth with a DKK550m (US$82.6m) contract for a new brownfield production line at its facility in Ha Nam province, Vietnam. Buzzi Unicem released its consolidated financial statement for 2018, reporting that EBITDA rose by 13.6 per cent in 2018 to EUR577m, up by EUR69m on 2017. Grupo Argos to invest COP2.6trn in subsidiaries in 2019

Colombia’s Grupo Argos, parent company of Cementos Argos, has stated that it plans to invest around COP2.6trn (US$816m) in its cement, energy and construction subsidiaries this year. Cementos Argos, Celsia and Odinsa will be the focus of the spending, made possible by the increase in net profits for the group in 2018. Holcim Philippines has secured tax incentives for its new kiln line in Bulacan province. The Board of Investments approved the company's application to register as a new cement producer for its Bulacan Line 3 project which will raise the cement capacity of the company to 2.478Mta.
