Pakistan’s Fauji Cement Co Ltd (FCCL) has successfully commissioned its new 2.1Mta greenfield cement plant in Shadan Lund, Dera Ghazi Khan. UltraTech Cement to acquire Kesoram Industries Ltd's demerged cement business

Kesoram Industries Ltd has decided to demerge its cement business and has approached UltraTech Cement Ltd in relation to the same.  The Board of Directors of UltraTech, after considering the recommendation and report of the Audit Committee and the Committee of Independent Directors, at its meeting held on 30 November 2023, considered Kesoram’s proposal and have approved a Composite Scheme of Arrangement to demerge Kesoram's cement business into Ultra Tech Cement. 

Karsan Ramji signs geothermal power deal

Kenya-based Karsan Ramji and Sons , which produces Ndovu Cement, has signed a 20-year deal with the country’s state-owned geothermal developer Geothermal Development Company (GDC). Under the agreement, GDC will provide Karsan Ramji with 40tph of steam from which the cement producer will generate power using a 4MW wellhead generation unit. Chile-based Cemento Polpaico reported losses of CLP9016.24m (US$10.4m) in the first nine months of 2023, compared with a profit of CLP3576.95m in the 9M22. UltraTech Cement has acquired a 0.54Mta cement grinding assets of Burnpur Cement Ltd, located at Patratu in Jharkhand, India, at a consideration of INR169,790m. This investment marks the company’s entry in the state of Jharkhand.   With this acquisition, UltraTech Cement's capacity in India now stands at 133Mta.

Turkey's Army Pension Fund, OYAK , has reached a preliminary agreement to sell its stakes in two cement companies to Taiwan Cement Corp for a total of about EUR673m. OYAK is selling a 20 per cent stake in Oyak Denizli Cement of Turkey to Taiwan Cement, valuing the company at EUR1.3bn (US$1.42bn). First Graphene has successfully completed the second phase of graphene-enhanced cement trials in collaboration with Breedon Cement Ltd at the cement producer’s Hope Cement Works. Construction of Lemi National Cement Factory in Ethiopia is 70 per cent completed and the plant is expected to be inaugurated in March 2024.
