Mauricio Doehner has been appointed as new president of Mexico’s cement association, Cámara Nacional del Cemento (Canacem). He replaces Billy Álvarez of Cruz Azul. Lafarge Zimbabwe returned to full-year profit for the 12 months ending December 2016 as volumes edged ahead and cost savings in operations, plant maintenance and "better" inventory control, as well as a revaluation of plant property and equipment all contributed to the improved performance. Lafarge-Algérie's Oggaz cement plant increased its cement output by 10 per cent in the last quarter to meet the country’s growing cement demand, according to plant manager, Jean-Louis Sibiede. State-owned cement manufacturer Semen Indonesia will distribute cash dividends worth IDR304.92/share from its 2016 fiscal year. The total dividends that will be distributed amount to IDR1.8trn, or the equivalent of 40 per cent of the company’s 2016 net profit of IDR4.52trn. New Zimbabwe plant begins production

Chinese company Livetouch Investments, has started production at its 400,000tpa capacity plant in Redcliff, Zimbabwe.   Construction of the plant is part of Phase One of the company’s project. Managing director and co-shareholder Dongning Wang told The Herald Business (Zimbabwe) that the plant had started operations at 70 per cent of its capacity on a trial basis.   The plant uses slag from the nearby ZISCO steel plant at Kwekwe.

Cemex Latam Holdings has announced it will present a new application for an environmental permit which would enable the Mexico-based cement producer to increase capacity at its Maceo plant in Antioquia, Colombia.
