Cemex plans sand and gravel operations

Cement plant faces court over dust cloud

Rugby Cement faces being prosecuted for an incident which led to homes and cars being covered in a thick layer of grit and dust. Cemex bosses are set to face magistrates for a dust cloud which spewed from its factory in Lawford Road, Rugby on October 14. The company has been charged by the Environment Agency with two offences under the Pollution Prevention and Control (England and Wales) Regulations 2000. The US EPA has proposed criteria for the environmentally protective use of chat in transportation construction projects carried out in whole or in part with federal funds, and in concrete and cement projects. Chat is a gravel-like waste created from lead and zinc mining activities in the Oklahoma, Kansas, and Missouri tri-state mining region between the late 1800s and mid 1900s.
