Mountain Cement Co. and two environmental groups have signed an agreement to install pollution-control equipment at one of the plant’s kilns. Under the agreement signed Wednesday, a US$5m baghouse must be installed at Kiln No. 2 at the plant south of Laramie. The company also agreed to pay the environmentalists’ legal fees. Rugby to trial household waste fuel

Rugby Cement in the UK wants to trial a fuel made from household rubbish which is hoped will cut greenhouse gas emissions by up to 10 per cent. Cemex hopes to burn Climafuel, which contains paper, plastics and wood, in its furnaces to make cement. The Climafuel will be mixed with petcoke in the company’s kiln at the plant in Lawford Road, Rugby. DOE assesses the use of energy at Holcim

The US Department of Energy recently conducted a three-day industrial energy saving assessment at the Holcim facility near Morgan as part of a national energy efficiency effort.  Through no-cost assessments, DOE is working with major manufacturing facilities to identify energy- and money-saving opportunities, primarily by focusing on steam and process heating systems.  The company operates 14 manufacturing plants and more than 70 distribution facilities.    DOE’s teams have completed visits...

Keystone Cement gets upgrade approval

Keystone Cement expects to significantly boost production at its East Allen Township plant with a US$165m upgrade approved Monday by the state Department of Environmental Protection. The project entails building a new modern kiln and increasing the height of a smokestack to 300 feet from 213 feet. The State’s Environmental Bureau (SEB) has decided to extend Liepaja’s Regional Environmental Administration’s (LREA) issued category A pollution permit for "Cemex" Broceni cement factory. As reported earlier, the Environmental Protection Club (VAK) in March disputed the category A pollution permit issued by "LREA" to allow the Broceni cement factory to go from gas to coal burning. Proposal for largest brownfield scheme

A proposal for the largest brownfield scheme in Northern Ireland was submitted this week. The application for a 153ha scheme in Magheramorne, near Larne, was announced by Lafarge Cement UK last year. An adventure sports facility, an eco-friendly village, nature conservation areas, international film and television studios, a heritage railway line and a visitor centre are all planned.
