Gotland’s county administrative board in Sweden has announced new requirements for cement producer Cementa in its new permit application for the company’s Slite plant. Cementa will have to report how much limestone it can quarry on site and how much can be brought from elsewhere. Caribbean Cement to burn waste tyres

The Caribbean Cement Company Ltd (CCCL) had signed an agreement for CCCL to use tyres from the Riverton City landfill in Kingston, to help fire its kilns for the manufacture of Portland cement. There are more than 2m tyres at Riverton to dispose of. There are also more at other landfills across the island. The project will reduce Caribbean Cement’s carbon emissions.

Carboneras Cement creates CO2 capture joint venture

LafargeHolcim Spain (Holcim group) will capture CO 2 emissions at its Carboneras plant. Together with Carbon Clean and Sistemas de Calor, the company has created the ECO02 joint venture which since the end of 2020 has been assessing the scheme’s technical viability and benefits.

Qassim Cement Co plans 30MW solar power plant

Saudi Arabia's Qassim Cement Co will mandate a consulting firm to help with the preparations for a 30MW solar plant at its site in Buraydah city. Qassim Cement produces about 4Mta of cement. The company will invest SAR152m (US$40.53m) to build a cement mill at its plant in Buraydah with a capacity of 300tph.
