Caribbean Cement signs MoU for tyre usage

The Jamaican government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Caribbean Cement Co for the usage of end-of-life pneumatic tyres. The company will take used tyres from landfills and convert them into an alternative fuel. Prime Minister Andrew Holness noted that more than 2m used tyres are generated in Jamaica per year and landfills receive approximately 185,700 tyres per year. LafargeHolcim’s Carboneras plant in Almeria, Spain, increased its use of alternative fuels by 34 per cent YoY to 80,900t in 2020. Cauldon plant invests GBP13m on reducing its carbon footprint

Construction has started at Lafarge Cement’s Cauldon plant, located in Staffordshire, on a GBP13m investment project to reduce its carbon footprint.   The project will see   a new preprocessing plant for the storage, handling and feeding of solid alternative fuels, that would otherwise end up as landfill.
