Kenya: clinker tops Mombasa port imports

According to a recent report from Kenya Ports Authority (KPA), Mombasa port has recorded an increase in the number of imported construction materials. Cement imports suspended in RDC

The government of the Democratic Republic of Congo has suspended grey cement imports for three months, reports local news source Radio Okapi. Modest Bahai, the country’s economics minister, said the decision had been taken due to the influx of illegal cement imports, which cost the country around US$8m and threatened the domestic cement industry. He also gave assurances that the import ban would not send prices skyward in the market.

Azerbaijan: Cement production drops by 30% in year to May

Cement production in Azerbaijan has fallen by 30.3 per cent for the five months to May 2016, Azer press reports. The national statistics committee put the decline in output down to lower public and private sector spending. Production of concrete fell by 60 per cent, to 177,000t. Azerbaijan produced 829,000t of cement in the first five months of the year. Clinker imports also fell by 55 per cent, to 140,500t, with prices remaining unchanged at US$46.60/t.

Saman Cement's MD angered by Iraq's high import duties

The managing director of Saman Cement Co, in Kermanshah, West Iran, has said that Iraq's high import duties on cement has put the Iranian cement industry in crisis, reports the Tasnim News Agency. Brazil’s current imports of around 400,000 bags of cement is damaging the Paraguayan cement industry, according to Jorge Méndez, CEO of Industria Nacional de Cemento (INC). Iraq promises to remove Iran import ban

Iraq has promised to remove the ban placed on Iranian cement imports, according to Adolreza Sheikhan, secretary of Iran's Cement Industry Employers Association. Following meetings between Iranian and Iraqi officials, Baghdad promised to give priority to Iranian exports once the general ban on cement import is removed, Mr Sheikhan said.
