Ambuja Cements announces plant expansion project

India’s Ambuja Cements Ltd is planning to expand manufacturing capacity from 2.4Mta to 3.4Mta at its Jala Dhulagori facility in West Bengal. While the company is awaiting environmental clearance, work on the project is expected to begin by October 2019. 

Deccan Cements sees four-fold 3Q net profit surge

India-based Deccan Cements reported a near four-fold hike in its net profit for the third quarter ended 31 December 2018. Net profit surged to INR329.9m from INR89.5m in the 3QFY18-19. Total income of the company increased from INR1362.1m in the year-ago period to INR5029.2m in the third quarter of the current financial year. Deccan Cements produces OPC, PPC, blended and slag cement as well as generating hydroelectric, wind and thermal power.

Cement prices rise 36-44% in Tamil Nadu

The price of a bag of cement in Tamil Nadu, India, has increased 36-44 per cent in the past week, rising from INR250 (US$3.54) to INR340-360. India's JK Lakshmi Cement has recorded a 71.7 per cent increase in standalone net profit to INR147.5m (US$2.07m) for the third quarter ended 31 December, compared with INR85.9m of the year-ago period. Orient Cement has reported its financial results for the third quarter of the FY18-19, ended 31 December 2018. Total income rose by 11.9 per cent to INR5.748bn (US$80.7m) in the 3QFY18-19 when compared with INR5.135bn in the year-ago period. Dalmia Cement plans new 2.5Mta project

India’s Dalmia Cement (Bharat) has announced plans to set up a new facility at Jamuna village in Satna district of Madhya Pradesh. The project is worth an estimated INR18.75bn (US$263.16m), and is expected to produce 3Mta of clinker and 2.5Mta of cement. The plans also include the construction of a 15MW WHR plant alongside the main unit. While the company is waiting environmental clearance, work is expected to commence by September 2019.

India’s Birla Corp Ltd reported a INR270m (US$3.76m) net profit for the third quarter ending 31 December 2018, up from a INR220m net loss of the previous year’s period. The Indian LafargeHolcim subsidiary ACC Ltd has reported an 8.4 per cent increase in cement deliveries for 2018 to 28.44Mt, while in the fourth quarter the advance was of a similar magnitude to 7.5Mt.
