NCL Industries reports 23% production decline

India’s NCL Industries has reported a 23 per cent fall in cement production to 423,000t in the 3QFY19-20, compared with 552,000t in the year-ago period. Cement dispatches decreased 22 per cent YoY to 430,000t from 552,000t. The company's production of cement boards rose eight per cent to 19,091t for the quarter ending December 2019, while cement board dispatches slipped 10 per cent to 14,967t.

UltraTech Cement reduces cement price in Jammu and Kashmir

India’s UltraTech Cement has reduced the price of cement in Jammu and Kashmir following the abolition of a toll tax in Lakhanpur, according to the region’s Department of Information and Public Relations. As a result, the price is reportedly decreasing to INR380/bag (US$5.29) from INR445/bag. The goods toll, previously being enforced under the Jammu and Kashmir Levy of Tolls Act 1995, has ceased to operate with effect from 1 January 2020.

Cement demand in eastern India is expected to grow by 8-10 per cent in the current financial year despite the economic slowdown, according to industry sources. Indian petcoke imports rise in October

India imported 809,000t of petcoke in October 2019, up more than 364 per cent from the year-ago period, according to Iman Resources. The imports were primarily sent from the US and Saudi Arabia, at 372,000t and 295,000t, respectively. Oman sent 38,000t, while 32,000t came from China. UltraTech awards grinding equipment order to Gebr Pfeiffer

UltraTech Cement, India’s largest cement producer, has placed the order for a MVR 6000 C-6 mill with Gebr Pfeiffer. Deccan Cements plans plant expansion

India’s Deccan Cements has announced plans to expand its integrated cement plant in Suryapet, Telangana, at an investment of INR6bn (US$84.5m). The project will involve the addition of a new 15MW waste heat recovery plant at the existing 18MW coal-based captive power facility. Statutory clearances for the project are being awaited, with work on the project planned for completion within 24 months from zero date.

CRH reportedly in talks to sell stake in Indian joint venture

CRH is reportedly in talks to exit its joint venture with India’s My Home Group, according to VC Circle. In 2008, CRH acquired the 50 per cent stake in My Home Industries for around US$450m and the deal would see this returned to the Indian group. My Home Industries operates across four locations in Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Telangana, with a total cement capacity of 9.6Mta. The company is a market leader in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana under its flagship brand of Maha Cement.

Ban on new cement plants lifted for Punjab

India’s Sagar Cements has seen the company's standalone cement production/purchase decline 27.4 per cent to 172,160t in November 2019, compared to 236,967t in the year-ago period. Consolidated cement production was down 23.1 per cent YoY to 244,291t from 317,796t. Standalone cement sales for the month also fell 29.4 per cent to 167,720t from 237,409t sold in November 2018.
