Fauji Cement to install new plant, Pakistan

Fauji Cement Co is setting up a new cement plant in Pakistan, The News reported on its website Thursday, citing the company secretary, Shabir Ahmed. The company has entered into a contract with cement plant manufacturer Polysius AG of Germany to supply plant and machinery to produce 7,200tpd of clinker, the website reported him as saying in a press release.

Finland: Finnsementti close facility for two weeks

Finnish cement manufacturer Finnsementti is laying off all its 50 production workers temporarily for two weeks in Lappeenranta in Finland. The facility will be closed for the two-week period, but customers services and cement deliveries will operate normally.

Venezuela and Iran  plan to loan Bolivia $225 million to create a state cement company for the construction of roads and houses. The deal was made between Bolivian President Evo Morales, Venezuelan Ambassador Julio Montes Prado and Iranian business official, Hojjatollah Soltani.

Lafarge North America Inc. is eliminating 37 jobs at its quarry and factory here as part of a slowdown in the domestic cement market. Local spokesman John Reagan said employees were told of the job cuts Monday. One hundred and eighty employees will be left after the cuts.
