Holcim Philippines, Inc. may temporarily shut down its kilns in response to an expected weakening of sales, officials have said. Japanese cement sales fell to their lowest level in 39 years in 2008 due to a slowdown of both public and private construction projects. Sales fell 9.6 per cent from the previous year to 50.47Mt, the Japan Cement Association said Thursday. Cement production declined 5.4 per cent to 67.58Mt.

Cement production in Azerbaijan reached 1.601Mt in January-December 2008, down 5.3% from January-December 2007; AzerPress reported citing figures from the state statistics committee.
