Tank-Weld to boost cement supply

Tank-Weld Metals has sealed a 10-year agreement with an international company to start supplying cement to the Jamaican market as early as February next year. The long-term agreement, which was being negotiated for two months, was signed on Friday between Tank-Weld and Vulcan Materials, a United States-based company. "They are a reputable company that produces high-quality cement," Chris Bicknell, chief executive officer of Tank-Weld told The Sunday Gleaner.

The country’s biggest cement factory began operations on Thursday in Le Loi Commune, Hoanh Bo District in the northeastern province of Quang Ninh. Cement producer Salonit Anhovo expects to post revenues to the tune of EUR 84m in 2008, up 10% YoY and one fifth above the target, director general Joze Funda told the press on Thursday. Sri Lankan government has decided to reduce the maximum retail price of state imported cement by Rs. 75 from yesterday midnight. Consumer Affairs Ministry said that this decision was taken at a special meeting held with the President Mahinda Rajapaksa yesterday evening. At the moment the price of a 50 kg cement bag in Sri Lanka is Rs. 785 and with the price reduction it will be Rs. 715, the Ministry said.

Gaimster, who is a chartered civil engineer and has an MBA, joined the CCANZ as project manager two years ago.
