Cement exports from Pakistan continued to show increasing trend, rising by a considerable 72 per cent YoY in 5 months FY09 amounting to 4.5Mt. Thang Long Cement becomes operational, Vietnam

Thang Long cement plant,will be operational today [December 18] in northern Quang Ninh province, the An Ninh Thu Do newspaper reported. The cement plant, invested by Thang Long Cement Joint Stock Company with VND5.43 trillion ($329.15 million), is capable of producing 6,000pd tons of clinker. Currently, the company is investing in the second production with the same capacity and will also build the third line in the near future.

Habesha Cement wins limestone exploration license

Habesha Cement Share Co. won the right to explore for limestone in the West Shoa zone of Ethiopia’s central Oromiya Regional state, the Ethiopian News Agency said. The company will use the limestone to supply a US$121m cement factory with an annual production capacity of 1.2Mt, the state-run Addis-Ababa based news agency said.

The Colombian anti-trust watchdog fined the country’s three largest cement makers with COP923m ($424,000) each for fixing prices in the second half of 2005, the regulator said Wednesday in a statement. Business Standard reported that ACC has become the first victim in the domestic cement industry to shut one of its plants in Himachal Pradesh for 15 days effective from Tuesday.
