US$15m cement plan to ease crisis

Bahrain’s only cement manufacturer, Star Cement, is to invest US$15m (BD5.6m) to increase production and combat a critical shortage, it was revealed yesterday. Iran’s Khoy cement factory to go on-stream this year

The managing director of the Khoy Cement factory announced here on Sunday that the factory is 85 per cent complete and will go on-stream in the current Iranian calendar year (ending March 20) if the financing of the project is on time. Taiheiyo Cement Corp, Asia’s biggest producer, turned to a loss in its first quarter as demand for the building material waned in Japan and the U. Shree Cement July shipments up 31 per cent YoY

Shree Cement said on Thursday its July shipments rose 31 per cent to 582,000t from 445,000t a year earlier.   Total shipments between April to July 2008 rose 28 per cent to 2.36Mt, from 1.84Mt a year ago, the company said in a statement.   The firm has a capacity to produce 8Mta of cement annually at its plant in the northern state of Rajasthan.
