Venezuela President Hugo Chavez said he’ll proceed with the nationalisation of his country’s cement industry, and has given Cemex, Lafarge and Holcim until Tuesday to comply, Bloomberg News reported.   Chavez has initiated a mammoth nationalisation drive, which has included joint oil ventures, a steel mill, cement companies and one of the country’s largest banks. A Russian industrial group has acquired one of Armenia’s two cement plants located in the central town of Hrazdan, according to an Armenian news agency. The Arminfo news agency based the report on an unnamed source close to the Mika-Cement company owned by Mikhail Baghdasarian, a Russian-Armenian businessman close to President Serzh Sarkisian. Tangshan Jidong Cement Co, a China-based construction materials manufacturer and distributor, announced that it has signed an agreement with Laishui County government to set up a new cement line. Government to abolish import duty on cement, Russia

A working group of the Russian government’s commission for protection measures in foreign trade has unanimously endorsed abolition of the cement import duty indefinitely, Kommersant reports.   The zero duty that is in force now expires in October. Its introduction in January resulted in an influx of cement imports, pushing cement prices on the Russian market down by over 20% in May-July and forcing the market’s leader, Eurocement, to cut its production by one third.

Anhui Conch Cement 1H net profit up 46 per cent

Anhui Conch, China’s largest cement producer by output, announces its first-half net profit rose 46% from a year earlier on strong sales volume growth and cement prices.   Hong Kong and Shanghai-listed Anhui Conch said in a statement its net profit in the six months ended June 30 was CNY1.30bn, up from CNY895.3m in the same period last year.   Its first-half revenue rose 22% to CNY10.20bn from CNY8.36bn.   The rise in net profit was partly due to lower tax expenditure and an increase in inve...

Ukraine cement production down by 0.1% to 1.84Mt

In July 2008, cement production in Ukraine fell by 0.1%, compared with July 2007, to 1.84Mt.   Production fell by 4.6% in July, compared to June.   In January-July cement production rose by 10.5%, compared to January-July 2007, to 9,293t.  

TCL to adjust domestic, international prices

Lithuania’s only cement manufacturer Akmenes Cementas said on Wednesday its sale revenue for the first seven months of this year soared by 41.5 per cent YoY to a record high of LTL178.3m (EUR 51.68m). Monthly sales for July jumped by 38.9 percent from a year earlier to LTL35m, the company’s public relations officer, Richardas Sudaras, told BNS.
