Azerbaijan sees cement production decline 3% YoY

Azerbaijan saw the value of construction materials produced in the country fall 4.8 per cent YoY to AZN426.7m (US$250.9m) in the first seven months of 2020, according to the State Statistics Committee. At the same time, the production of cement decreased by 2.7 per cent and precast concrete structures were down 25.6 per cent.

Uzbekistan's cement capacity reportedly set to rise 60% YoY

Uzbekistan’s cement production capacity will rise to 20Mta by the end of 2020, up 60 per cent YoY from 12.5Mta at the end of 2019, according to Ulugbek Abrayev, deputy chair of Uzbekqurilishmateriallari. Mr Abrayev added that the country will produce 14.5Mt in 2021, around 73 per cent of the projected capacity for 2021. At present 10 cement plant construction projects across eight of Uzbekistn’s 12 regions are due for completion in 2020 and 2021.

Cement dispatches in Peru are recovering from COVID-19 disruption. In July 2020, 0.826Mt of cement was delivered to the domestic market, according to Asocem. Cement sales in the Dominican Republic fell 20.3 per cent YoY to 1,835,598t in the first half of 2020 from 2,303,915t in the 1H19, reports the domestic cement association, Adocem. Cement sales in Vietnam fell by eight per cent in June 2020 when compared to June 2019, according to the Vietnam National Cement Association (VNCA). Shipments reached 5,215,388t, noting a similar MoM decrease from 5,680,883t in May 2020. The value of raw material imports for Bangladesh’s cement industry fell almost 13 per cent YoY to BDT64.81bn (US$764.1m) in the FY19-20, on the back of a stagnation in construction activities due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
