Cement sales in Brazil increase 14% in August

Cement sales in Brazil continued to rise in August with a 13.6 per cent YoY increase to 5.7Mt, reported the country’s cement association, SNIC. Per working day, sales reached 244,400t, representing a YoY increased of 18.5 per cent and 3.7 per cent MoM. Argentine cement demand declines 13% in August

The Argentine cement market contracted 12.5 per cent YoY to 917,297t in August 2020, according to the latest data published by AFCP, the country’s cement association. However, when compared with the previous month, an expansion in sales of 6.3 per cent was reported. The aggregate sales of 17 Saudi cement producers climbed 38 per cent to 4.3Mt in August 2020, compared to 3.1Mt in the same month last year, reported Yamama Cement Co. As many as 16 cement producers reported higher sales, headed by Al-Jouf Cement Co with a YoY rise of 131 per cent in August. Al-Safwa Cement Co was close behind with an increase of 116 per cent YoY. Total shipments of Portland and blended cement in the USA and Puerto Rico advanced 11 per cent to 10.1Mt in June 2020 when compared with June 2019, according to the US Geological Survey (USGS). Pakistan’s cement industry recorded a growth of five per cent YoY in total dispatches from 3.351Mt to 3.52Mt in August 2019.  However, a reverse trend of 27.2 per cent was noted, when compared with the figure 4.838Mt in July 2020. Moroccan market expands 19% in August

Cement consumption in Morocco increased 19.4 per cent YoY to 865,681t in August 2020 from 725,359t in August 2019, according to data published by the country’s Ministry of Urbanisation and Habitat. However, in the first eight months of 2020 demand fell by 15.8 per cent YoY from 8,883,681t in the 7M19 to 7,482,031t in January-August 2020.

Odisha clears two cement capacity expansion projects

India’s Odisha state government has cleared two proposals for the expansion of cement grinding capacities. It gave the go-ahead for JSW Cement’s 1.2Mta expansion and Jajpur Cement’s Pvt Ltd 1Mta expansion project – both are located in Kalinganagar in Jajpur. JSW will invest INR4.899bn (US$66.7m) while Jajpur Cements has allocated INR4bn for the project.

Manaus cement plants face watchdog warning

Two cement plants in Manaus, Brazil, have received warnings from Procon, the consumer watchdog in the state of Amazonas. To end the chronic shortage of cement in the market, Ethiopia’s Ministry of Trade and Industry has prepared a new guideline to introduce the private sector to the supply chain.
