US cement consumption to drop 30.9 per cent in second quarter

The US cement consumption will drop 30.9 per cent in second quarter, according the Ed Sullivan, Chief Economist, Portland Cement Association (USA). Sullivan was speaking during the Cemtech Live Webinar on 15 April 2020, which was attended by over 400 participants from the global cement industry. Sullivan was due to speak at the IEEE-IAS/PCA Cement Conference in Las Vegas, Nevada on 20 April, but the event was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.  Watch the full presentation here

China’s cement industry expected to lead economic recovery

Despite the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, the Saudi cement sector has reportedly seen a 33 per cent YoY average increase in cement market volumes during the 1Q20, according to an Al Rajhi Capital report. CMIC president warns that workers may soon lose salary

The national president of the Mexican Chamber of the Construction Industry (CMIC), Eduardo Ramírez Leal, has warned that the minimal operation of smaller construction companies will result in around 500,000 workers in the sector losing income at the end of April. Bhutan’s Dungsam Cement Corp has been adversely affected by the lockdown in India, according to Sonam Jigme, CEO.
