Alborz cement plant – progress report

According to “Tehran Times”, the first unit of Semnan’s Alborz Cement Plant will come on stream by March 2007. The project, which is said to have cost more than 135 billion rials (nearly $15m), is now 32 per cent complete and is expected to produce over 3300tpd cement when its starts operation next year. C&CA calls for cement ceiling price revision

The Cement & Concrete Association of Malaysia (C&CA) wants the government to review the ceiling prices for cement following the approval of the electricity tariff hike which could cost the industry an additional RM64 million annually.    It said the current ceiling price no longer reflects the market situation in Malaysia and a revision is “long overdue and well justified”. A bag of cement sold in Bagio City, Philippines, and in some provinces in the Cordillera and the Ilocos reach consumers at a 100 per cent price mark up by retailers, an investigation conducted by the city council showed. Santo Domingo: Manufacturers have decided to increase the price per the sack of cement, by 76.4 per cent while warehouse owners justified this move, and also raised the cost of construction rods by 25 per cent, alleging that prices during the past eight months had been “fictitious”. Cement company denies cutting back on imports, Jamaica

Caribbean Cement Company Limited is denying claims being made in some quarters that it has cutback on the importation of supplies. Caribbean Cement General Manager Anthony Haynes says contrary to these claims, the company has imported more than 60,000 tonnes of cement since the start of the year. He says another shipment from the Dominican Republic is expected to arrive in two weeks.
