Malaysia’s CIMA targets five per cent revenue growth in 2006

Cement Industries of Malaysia Bhd (CIMA) said on Monday it aimed to boost revenues and return on equity this year. The cement maker said in a statement to the exchange it was targeting five per cent revenue growth this year, compared with a one per cent fall last year, and six per cent return on equity, compared with a negative return of three per cent last year.

Qatar cement shortage

A serious shortage of cement has hit the construction industry in Qatar, reports The Peninsula. Cement has not been plentiful for some time, but, according to an official at the Qatar Chamber of Commerce, the situation is now critical. Local demand is 13,000 tonnes per day, but supplies are falling well short of this and it is feared work on some projects will cease, including those for the upcoming Asian Games.   

Venezuela to set up US$221m cement plant

Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez announced that the country will set up a US$221m cement plant in Maturin, in the Venezuelan northern state Monagas. The facility will be operated by a newly established social production enterprise (EPS) for cement, named Cemento Cerro Azul. The plant will have a capacity of 1Mta. Cement production to start in Laos
