ACC reports on merger gains

Indian cement maker ACC, said first-quarter net profit rose 42% due to its merger with two of its own units and higher cement prices. Net profit rose to 2.35 billion rupees ($52.6m), up from 1.66 billion rupees in the year-earlier period. Sales rose 19 per cent to 13.28 billion rupees. ACC merged with its units Bargarh Cement Ltd. and Damodar Cement & Slag Ltd., which helped results. Carib Cement to slash fuel costs

Caribbean Cement Company Limited’s (Carib Cement) shift from liquid fuel to solid fuel will allow it to produce cement at a cheaper cost two years from now. The company is now using greater volumes of coal and petcoke in its production process and less of bunker C (heavy fuel oil). Saudi Arabia approves new plant

Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Trade and Industry has approved the establishment of a 1.021 bln Saudi riyals (US$272m) cement plant, it was reported on April 13, 2005. The company is called Jouf Cement Co and is headquartered in the capital Riyadh. Jouf Cement’s capital is divided into 102.1 million shares with a par value of 10 riyals (US$2.67). The company’s activities include cement production, and wholesale and retail trade in cement and other construction materials.

Cement shortage hits many southern areas

Iskitymcement to double capacity

Russian producer, Iskitymcement OJSC (member of RATM group) is planning to double its production capacity to 3Mta by constructing one more line. According to the Novosibirsk region Governor Viktor Tolokonsky, the management and regional administration discussed some technical parameters of the project. Eurocement sees output increasing

Russia’s Eurocement Group plans to increase output 10-12 per cent on the year to 26.1Mt of cement this year and increase investments in upgrades and development 40 per cent on the year to over 3 billion rubles, the holding’s President Mikhail Skorokhod told delegates at the Petrocem conference, St Petersburg. Cement sales in southern Africa rose 18.3 per cent year-on-year to 1.18Mt in March. Sales of cement in the Southern African Customs Union during the first three months of 2006 were 3.05Mt, up 12.4 per cent from the same period last year, the Cement & Concrete Institute said on their website.
