Russia’s antitrust warns Eurocement against hiking prices

Russia’s Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS) has again warned Russian cement producer Eurocement Group against increasing cement prices further, the FAS said Tuesday.   Director of the FAS Igor Artemyev sent a letter warning the Chairman of Eurocement Group’s board of directors Filaret Galchev, the FAS said.  Eurocement Group is to inform the FAS before it raises its cement prices by more than five per cent, the FAS said. Market rumours that cement major Grasim Industries is eyeing a stake in Chennai-based India Cements, taking its stock up to a 52-week high of Rs 210.70 on Tuesday. On the road to Damascus

A new cement factory will be built close to Damascus  with a cost of Euro 260m and with 3Mta capacity, Syrian daily newspaper of al-Thawra said Tuesday. Ziad al-Za’im, a Syrian investor, had already got the go-ahead official approval for the project, and has also got the land for building the factory, the paper added. The investor is negotiating with an Italian-French Company for the structural studies and equipment. The factory is expected to be commissioned by late 2007.

Gov’t urged to investigate cement capacity

Padang notes rise in cement production

Indonesian producer PT Semen Padang in West Sumatra recorded a 6.4 per cent year-on-year increase in production to 1.26Mt in the first quarter of this year.   The production was 9.21 per cent higher than previous estimate, company secretary Chairil Chaidir said. Padang saw its sales rise 3.4 per cent to 1.19Mt in the first three months of this year compared with the same period last year. ACC prepares for expansion

Associated Cement Companies (ACC) India, plans to invest about Rs400 crore to expand capacity at its facility in Lakheri in Rajasthan by 1Mta. Eurocement Group plans in 2006-2007 to invest more than 670 million rubles in two cement-producing plants located in Russia’s Belgorod Region, Eurocement Group said in a press release Thursday. The two plants, Belgorodsky Tsement and Oskoltsement, are to increase their output following the move, Eurocement Group said. Lafarge said on Thursday it plans to invest Euro 30m to 40m in the next four years in the development of its Moldovan unit, cement producer Ciment Rezina. Lafarge director for Moldova Hubert Pillet told a news conference that the investments would be used mainly to improve quality of products and to launch production of new types of cement.
