China to build cement works in Amur Region, Russia

China Triumph International (CTIE) will build a cement works in the Amur Region. The construction of the works, on the basis of the Chagoyansk deposit of limestone, is to begin in April 2011 and to be finished in the first quarter of 2013.

Holcim Catskill layoffs extended through February, USA

The temporary layoffs at the Holcim cement plant in Catskill will continue until the end of February, a company official said Monday.

 The layoffs, which were announced in November and effective until Monday, are being extended until February 28, according to Holcim’s Vice President of Corporate Communications Robin DeCarlo.

Brazil 12 month accumulated sales up 13.8%

Preliminary data industry data and market estimates indicate that accumulated domestic Brazilian cement sales over the 12 months from December 2009-November 2010 reached 58.4Mt, representing an increase of 13.8 per cent against the same YoY period (December 2008-November 2009). 

In November 2010 alone, domestic cement sales were 5.1Mt. Between January 2010-November 2010, sales amounted to 54.3Mt.

Philippine sales growth slows

Philippine cement sales in 2010 likely grew at a slower pace from 2009 which saw increased construction activity to repair the damage caused by Tropical Storm Ondoy and Typhoon Pepeng, an industry group official yesterday said. The Emperor House Co Ltd expects its home-building business to grow at least 10 per cent next year, as the economy is forecast to keep expanding at 4.5-5 per cent.
