Cement consumption in Argentina’s decreased by 10.9 per cent YoY to 1,019,682t in November 2023 from 1,144,123t in November 2022, reports the country’s cement association, AFCP. This includes 1266t of imports. Production fell by 10.8 per cent YoY to 1,026,049t in November 2023 from 1,150,824t in November 2022. UK carbon pricing levy by 2027

The UK is to introduce a new import carbon pricing mechanism by 2027 to support its decarbonisation drive. Among the products subject to the new levy will be cement, along with steel, iron, aluminium and ceramics. Cement sales in Brazil slipped 1.3 per cent to 5.25Mt in November 2023 from 5.318Mt in November 2022, according to the Brazilian cement association, SNIC. Demand for cement in Spain declined 4.6 per cent YoY to 1,276,910t in November from 1,338,036t, according to the country’s cement association, Oficemen. Total cement shipments of Portland and blended cement in the USA and Puerto Rico fell 7.7 per cent to 9.5Mt in September 2023 when compared with the year-ago period, according to the US Geological Survey (USGS). Saudi Arabia recorded 807,000t of cement exports in October 2023, according to Aljazira Capital. This marks an 11.9 per cent advance on the 721,000t reported in the same month a year earlier. Local sales, meanwhile, came in at 4.21Mt in October, down 11.1 per cent from the 4.7Mt seen in October 2022 as the ongoing weakness in housing construction continues. Cement dispatches in Colombia slipped 0.8 per cent YoY to 1.114Mt in October 2023 from 1.123Mt in October 2022, reported the country's statistics office, DANE. Cement production in Italy declined by eight per cent YoY in September 2023, according to the Italian concrete association, Federbeton. When compared with the 2015-baseline index of 100, output fell  to 93.
