Iranian cement consumption increased by seven per cent YoY to 5.51Mt in December 2023, according to the Iranian cement association. This follows a 54.8 per cent increase in November 2023 when demand reached 6.61Mt from a low 4.27Mt in November 2022. National dispatches in Peru fell by 12 per cent YoY to 0.958Mt in December 2023, according to the country's cement association, Asocem. Of this total, 0.885Mt were dispatched by Asocem members. Domestic cement production declined by 15 per cent to 0.928Mt in December 2023 from 1.087Mt in December 2022. Moroccan cement association welcomes Novacim membership

The Assembly General of L’Association Profesionelle des Cimentiers (APC) has ratified the decision of its Board of Directors to welcome Novacim , the new Moroccan producer of clinker and cement. Novacim has a 1.6Mta cement plant located in Oulad Ghanem , El Jadida, requiring an investment of MAD2.6m (US$0.259m). With this new unit, the cement supply of APC members reaches a production capacity of 24.6Mta.

Cement prices fall in Pakistan

Cement prices across Pakistan have declined over the last week, according to the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics, bringing welcome relief to builders and developers across the country.  The average retail price of a bag of cement in the northern regions of Pakistan has fallen from PKR1246 (US$4.45) last week to PKR1238 this week, a contraction of 0.57 per cent, reports Samaa. Cement consumption in Argentina fell by 13.1 per cent YoY and 20.5 per cent MoM to 810,314t in December 2023, down from 932,660t in December 2022, reports the Argentine cement producers’ association, AFCP. Total shipments of Portland and blended cement, including imports, in the USA and Puerto Rico declined by 3.6 per cent YoY to 10.1Mt in October 2023, reports the US Geological Survey (USGS). In December 2023 cement sales in Brazil edged up by 0.8 per cent YoY to 4.497Mt from 4.463Mt in December 2022, according to the Brazilian cement association, SNIC. Cement dispatches in Chile fell by 11.8 per cent to 408,824t in November 2023 from 463,307t in November 2022, according to data published by the country's construction chamber, CChC.
