The Cement Producers Association of Nigeria has praised the Nigerian government’s commitment to introduce concrete roads but warned that supply issues could push cement prices to NGN9000/bag (US$11.54/bag). Cement sales in Vietnam declined 11 per cent YoY to 4,471,258t in August 2023 when compared with August 2022, according to the Vietnam National Cement Association (VNCA). Revenue for PPC ’s South Africa and Botswana operations (excluding Zimbabwe and Rwanda) increased by five per cent YoY in the first five months of FY23-24 (April-August 2023), supported by higher average selling prices but lower sales volumes. Cement dispatches in Peru declined by 10 per cent YoY to 1.089Mt in August 2023 from1.211Mt in August 2022, according to the country’s cement association, ASOCEM. Saudi Arabia saw its cement exports decline by 21.3 per cent in August 2023 to 620,000t. Cement dispatches in Chile were up by 1.4 per cent YoY to 280,545t in July 2023 from 276,554t in July 2022, says the Chilean construction chamber, CChC. However, in the January-July 2023 period, the country’s cement market contracted by 7.6 per cent YoY to 2.079Mt from 2.249Mt in the first seven months of 2022.

Iranian cement consumption sees 16% rise in August

Iran’s cement market expanded by 15.9 per cent YoY to 5.77Mt in August 2023 from 4.98Mt in August 2022, according to the Iranian Cement Association. Cement production increased by 13.8 per cent YoY to 5.6Mt while clinker output edged up by 1.8 per cent to 5.72Mt in August 2023. Domestic cement producers exported 0.38Mt of cement, up 26.7 per cent YoY, but clinker exports fell by 16.5 per cent YoY to 0.66Mt in August 2023.
