Armenian exports rise in first six months of 2013

Armenian cement exports have increased over the first six months of the year despite a drop in domestic output. Brazilian cement sales in the first nine months of 2013 totalled 52.4Mt, a rise of 2.3 per cent on the same period of last year, latest data from Sindicato Nacional da Indústria do Cimento shows. Third quarter sales rose by 3.8 per cent to 18.8Mt, compared to 2.8 per cent growth in the same quarter of 2012. Fancesa to open bidding process for new plant, Bolivia

Bolivian cement producer Fancesa will put out its planned new cement works out to tender next year. Mirko Gardilcic, Fancesa manager, said the new works will be a split-site plant with the clinker factory in the outskirts of Sucre while the grinding unit will be built near Santa Cruz de la Sierra. FLSmidth confirms Qatari project talks, contract to be finalised

Following reports in Qatari media stating that FLSmidth has entered into an agreement with Qatari Investors Group for supply of equipment and machinery for a cement plant in Qatar, the Danish equipment supplier has confirmed negotiations are currently taking place. However, in a statement released yesterday, FLSmidth said that the order is yet to be confirmed:  "If and when a contract is finalised and becomes binding, we shall immediately inform the market," the release said.  

Ketton solar power plant could see year-end start, UK

A new solar power plant to be built on land owned by Hanson Cement could be up-and-running by year-end, with over a third of its power destined to supply the UK cement producer's Ketton works. Semen Indonesia has announced that its sales increased to 18.5Mt in the first nine months of the year, 15.6 per cent higher than the same period of last year including a notable rise in exports. China's cement and clinker production totalled 1.52bnt and 888Mt in the first eight months of 2013, up 9.2 per cent and 5.2 per cent respectively from the same period of a year earlier, according to the China Cement Association. Siam Cement Group (SCG) expects full year revenue to be slightly lower than original forecasts as flooding hits domestic sales. In an interview with the Bangkok Post, SCG’s chief executive Kan Trakhulhoon, said sales of cement and building materials have clearly witnessed a slowdown as floods spread to wider areas including the eastern area which is not usually flooded.
