Belgian fines for restricting market access

Cement production in Armenia rose by 6.2 per cent in the first seven months of the year, according to the latest data from the country’s national statistics service. Guatemala’s largest producer, Cementos Progreso, plans to spend US$720m on the construction of a new cement plant, according to local news reports. The greenfield plant will be constructed in the San Gabriel Buena Vista farm in San Juan Sacatepequez and have an installed capacity of 2.3Mta, according to reports by Prensalibre.com. Southern Province Cement 1H net profit up 3.7%

Southern Province Cement posted a SAR566m (US$150.9m) net profit for the first half of 2013, up from SAR546m a year ago. The company attributed the increase to higher sales driven by a rise in local demand. Construction of Ain El Kebira second line begins, Algeria

Algeria’s Minister of Industry, SMEs and Investment Promotion, Cherif Rahmani, started off the construction of the second production line at the Ain El Kebira cement plant, north of Setif. The new line, which has a clinker capacity of 6000tpd, is part of GICA’s drive to up state-owned production capacity by 26Mt by the end of 2016. When completed, in 33 months’ time, the extension will take output capacity at the site from 1Mta to 3Mta.

Najran delays launch of WHR project, Saudi Arabia

Najran Cement has postponed the launch of its waste heat recovery (WHR) plant by six months, the company said in a bourse statement yesterday. The Saudi-based cement producer will now bring the new WHR plant on line in March 2014 instead of September 2013 as originally planned. The project is costing US$45m with a projected power generating capacity of 27.1MW.
