Star Cement exports clinker to Bangladesh via river route

India-based Star Cement said it has dispatched its first barge of clinker to Bangladesh via river. Bolivia's producers optimistic on buoyant market

Cement prices in Zambia's capital, Lusaka, have increased for the third time in a month to reach record levels. Prices are currently ZMW85,000 (US$15.60), the highest ever seen on the Zambian market. Two Vietnam plant licences revoked

Cement plant licences for two projects being set up in the central Vietnam province of Nghe An have been revoked due to slow implementations. The two projects are the 5Mta Tan Ky cement plant in Tan Ky district, and the 0.43Mta Hop Son works in Anh Son district, the Thoi Bao Kinh Te Vietnam newspaper reported. The Tan Ky cement plant, a project by Kinh Bac City Development Share Holding Corp, started construction more than two years ago, on 19 May 2010.

New Tajikistan-China joint venture set for commissioning

A joint Tajikistan and Chinese enterprise is to start commissioning of its 1Mta cement plant at the end of this month, a spokesperson for the Tajikistan's Ministry of Energy and Industry (MoEI) has said. The joint venture, called Huaxin Ghayur Cement, has been constructed in the Yovon district, Khatlon province, Tajikistan. “The construction of the plant has practically been completed and it just remains to complete the commissioning process,” the official MoEI source said.

US shipments ahead in first five months

Total shipments of Portland and blended cement in the United States and Puerto Rico in May 2013 were about 7.77Mt, up by nearly three per cent YoY, according to the latest statistics from the US Geological Survey (USGS). Poland's cement production totalled 1.733 Mt in July 2013, up by 2.2 per cent YoY, according to the latest data from the country's cement association.
