Peru dispatches rise 16.8%

Shipments of cement in the Peruvian market totaled 6,098,738t from January to August 2012, 16.84 per cent more than the same period of 2011 (5,219,828t), the Association of Cement Producers (Asocem) has reported. Indian producers signal possible price hike

Indian cement producers have indicated that prices may have to be hiked to absorb increased freight charges as diesel prices are hiked. Morgan Stanley sees China recovery from 4Q12

Morgan Stanley (MS) believes that the China cement industry showed some early signs for recovery, noting that prices have stopped declining on rising property construction following accelerating land sales. UK construction activity contracts 10.1% in 2Q12

UK construction sector activity was down 10.1 per cent in the year to July, official figures from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) said. The three months between May-July also saw a drop in output of 10 per cent YoY, the ONS data showed. Katavsky Cement, part of Russian market leader Eurocement Group, produced 146,008t of cement in August 2012, surpassing last year’s record of 138,005t. Siam Cement Group (SCG) expects domestic cement consumption to be double than its earlier forecasts for 2012 as demand is on the path of recovery. A ship carrying cement was facing detention in Drogheda on the east coast of Ireland last night due to an almost €80,000 in alleged unpaid crew wages, according to reports in the Irish Times. The MV Julia’s nine -man crew from Ukraine, Russia and Lithuania had not been paid since May, International Transport Workers Federation co-ordinator for Ireland and Britain Ken Fleming said. Brazilian monthly sales up 7.3 per cent YoY

Cement consumption in the Brazilian market totaled 6.3Mt in August, representing a rise of 7.3 per cent YoY, data from Sindicato Nacional da Indústria de Cimento (SNIC) shows. August 2012 sales were up 4.2 per cent on a month-on-month basis from July 2012. Total domestic shipments for the first eight months of 2012 reached 45.17Mt, representing a YoY increase of 8.5 per cent, the association data showed.

Qassim Cement to add new line, Saudi Arabia
