PT Semen Bosowa Maros officially started construction on a new clinker plant in South Sulawesi as part of its expansion programme. Cement sales in Indonesia rose 10.7% YoY in October with the highest growth in the Moluccas and on Papua. October sales in the areas stood at 87,316t, representing a 68.5% hike on the previous year, according to data from PT Semen Gresik Tbk. The Indian Nacionalist Congress Party (NCP) has strongly criticised the decision of the Jammu and Kashmir government for a new cement plant in Samba district, saying that the project acquired agricultural land. Egyptian Steel ventures into cement

The Qatari-Egyptian steel producer Egyptian Steel will be investing around US$250m in a new cement works. The venture will seek to acquire a cement licence out of the seven the Egyptian government is planning to offer. If successful, it is expected that the works will have an annual capacity of 1.5-1.8Mta, said Abu Hashima, Egyptian Steel chairman.

HeidelbergCement is investing US$250m in a 1.5Mta clinker plant at Tabligbo, some 80km to the north of the capital Lomé, for completion in 2015. Angola’s Cimentfort enters service in May

Angola will see a new cement plant enter service in May. The Cimentfort works in Catumbela is expected to produce around 0.7Mt by year-end, according to a report by press agency Angop. Located near a railway line, the production facility is also ideally placed to supply cement to the southern provinces via the Benguela Railway. The provinces of Huambo, Bie and Kuando Kubango will be among the first to benefit from the new plant’s output.
