Peru’s cement dispatches fell 10 per cent to 0.73Mt in April when compared with April 2016, when 0.811Mt were delivered, according to the country's cement producers' association, Asocem. Vietnam exported more than 1.9Mt of cement and clinker, reflecting an export value of US$67.4m, according to the country’s Customs Department. This represents a YoY increase of 6.7 and 7.6 per cent, respectively. In the first four months of the year, the country exported 6.7Mt of cement and clinker, up 12.8 per cent YoY. Peruvian producer Cementos Pacasmayo SAA and its subsidiaries saw revenues decrease by 9.3 per cent and sales volumes of cement, concrete and blocks fell by 12.2 per cent primarily due to landslides, flooding and heavy rain, in the north of Peru since mid-February associated with El Niño. Cement producers in Peru have started to feel the impact of El Niño, according to Credicorp Capital. Between January and March, cement dispatches have fallen seven per cent. Cementos Pacasmayo is expected to see the highest drop in volumes even though its plant has not been damaged by the landslides. Cement consumption in Peru saw a six per cent YoY fall but recorded a 1.4 per cent MoM rise, according to Asocem, the country’s cement association. Demand reached 0.747Mt, down from 0.795Mt in the third month of 2016. Vietnam exported 4.82Mt of cement and clinker worth US$168.65m in the first quarter of this year, representing 11 per cent increase YoY in volume and 6.4 per cent in value, according to the latest data of the General Department of Vietnam Customs. Unacem sales fell 4.3 per cent in 2016 to PEN1865m in 2016. In Ecuador, its subsidiary Unacem Ecuador sold 1.2Mt of cement at a value of US$153.2m. Peru's cement market contracted 6.9 per cent YoY with sales of 0.737Mt in February, according to Asocem, the country's cement producers' association. Output from Unacem, Cementos Pacasmayo and Cementos Yura reached 0.766Mt, 6.9 per cent below the 0.822Mt produced in February 2016. Cementos Yura has announced that its profits for4Q16 were down by 20.1 per cent YoY to PEN40.2m (US$12.4m), reports Business News Americas. The firm saw sales revenues fall by 3.3 per cent, while administrative costs more than doubled as the firm paid a PEN25.7m penalty for cancelling a contract with a supplier. Peru's Cementos Pacasmayo saw its cement, concrete and blocks sales decline by 12.7 per cent YoY in 4Q16. However, there was extraordinary spending associated with El Niño prevention in the quarter.
