Philippine cement sales increased by 9.6 per cent YoY in 2014, Ernesto M Ordonez, president of the Cement Manufacturers’ Association of the Philippines (CeMAP), confirms. Sales by producers in the local market by end-2104 reached 21.3Mt compared to 19.44Mt in the previous year. Indonesia, Malaysia and Taiwan were the largest importers of Vietnamese clinker and cement in the first nine months of this year, according to data released by the Vietnamese Ministry of Industry and Trade. During the period, Indonesia imported 1.76Mt of clinker and cement worth US$83m from Vietnam, while Malaysia acquired 1.05Mt worth US$52m and Taiwan purchased 969,678t worth US$41.7m. ACC Ltd in India increased cement deliveries in the three months to the end of September by 2.6 per cent to 5.546Mt, while the nine-month figure was off by 0.5 per cent at 18.08Mt. Siam Cement's operations in the Philippines posted stronger sales of cement, building materials and tiles in the first half of 2014, the Thai conglomerate said in a statement. Cement sales in the Philippines rose 3.2 per cent in the second quarter of this year, underpinned by public works projects and private sector construction activity.
