Lucky cement sets up storage at Karachi Port, Pakistan

Lucky Cement has set up a modern storage facility and ship loading terminal for loose cement at the Karachi Port for exports. According to company sources, the terminal, set up at Berth No 25 of West Wharf, has a capacity of 24,000t of cement.

India: cut in excise duty

In a move to boost up the demand in domestic market, the government has announced 2% excise duty cut on bulk cement. Post announcement, excise duty will be levied at 8% or Rs230/tonne; whichever is higher. Post excise duty cut, the prices of bulk cement are expected to come down by Rs3/tonne, provided companies pass on the benefit to consumers. Pakistan cement exports have recorded a robust growth of 91.69 per cent to US$ 289.217m during July-December 2008 over same period last year. The Colombian government decided to eliminate a 10% tariff on imported cement to limit price increases in the local market and boost competition, Environment and Housing Minister Juan Lozano said Monday.
