Dyckerhoff sees advances in Russia, USA volumes stable

Dyckerhoff Group, a Buzzi Unicem subsidiary, reported a decline in sales for the first three months to the end of March 2013 due to unfavourable weather conditions. In an advanced statement, the group said that total sales were down by 11 per cent. Sales were down in all regions in which the group operates except for Russia where volumes increased, and the USA where they remained almost stable. Leading US aggregates producer Vulcan Materials' first quarter turnover was a mere 0.4 per cent ahead at US$538.2m higher and the EBITDA, which had recovered by 36.4 per cent a year ago, came off by 33.5 per cent to US$27.9m. Cemex is to pay a US$1m civil penalty and install US$600,000 worth of new pollution control equipment at its Lyons plant in Colorado, to settle alleged violations of the Clean Air Act, according to the US Department of Justice and the Environmental Protection Agency. Total shipments of Portland and blended cement in the US and Puerto Rico for January 2013 were up by five per cent to 4.8Mt compared to the same month a year ago, latest data from the US Geological Survey shows. Lafarge North America is selling its Wichita aggregates, concrete and asphalt/paving operations to Summit Materials. The Lafarge-Summit agreement involves Lafarge’s three aggregate quarries, five ready-mix concrete sites and three asphalt operations in the Wichita area, according to Lafarge.
