Titan Cement of Greece reported a 3.6 per cent recovery in turnover for 2012 to €1130.7m, following the 19.2 per cent drop in the previous year. EBITDA, however, continued its double-digit decline and fell by 19.8 per cent to €195.8m. Holcim ahead despite Europe slowdown

Annual results released by Holcim earlier this week show that cement sales for the Swiss major in 2012 were ahead in spite of lower European volumes and political instability in the Middle East. Turnover during the year rose by 3.9 per cent in 2012 to CHF21,544m and in euro terms the increase was 6.4 per cent to EUR17,867m. Argos, Colombia’s largest cement producer, recorded a 25 per cent YoY rise in EBITDA in 2012 and an 82 per cent rise in operating income. Italcementi, the fifth-largest cement producer in the world, has launched a five-year bond of EUR350m at an issue price of EUR99.477 and a coupon of 6.125 per cent, according to reports in La Stampa. Vulcan Materials' turnover edged up by 0.1 per cent last year to US$2567.3m, marking the second consecutive year of virtually static sales. Eagle Materials' turnover, including its share of the Texan cement joint venture with HeidelbergCement, rose by 22.7 per cent to US$366.32m for the six months to the end of September and the trading profit virtually trebled to US$53.35m. Cemex expected to narrow fourth-quarter loss

Cemex is expected to narrow its net loss in the fourth-quarter of 2012 from a year earlier, helped by improved performance in its main US market and cost reduction. A Reuters poll showed six analysts on average forecast that Cemex lost US$47m in the October-December period, compared with a net loss of US$146m in the same period of 2011. Analysts' forecasts ranged from earnings of US$77m to a loss of US$134m.
